MED, Blu & Madlib – Bad Neighbor

MED, Blu and Madlib… it’s got a nice ring to it doesn’t it? It’s been more than two years since we got a taste of this combination with The Burgundy EP and now the trio have released a full album together titled Bad Neighbor.

I’ve been a big fan of all three of these cats for quite some time but to be honest it’s been a while since I’ve been excited by any releases from Madlib or Blu. This is a different story though with Madlib showing that he’s still one of the most creative with the beats, laying the foundation for Blu to show just how good he can be. As for MED, he’s always on point in my books and this is no exception. And to top it off, the album features the likes of Dam-Funk, Oh No, Frank Nitt, MF DOOM, Anderson Paak, Phonte, Jimetta Rose, Aloe Blacc, and Mayer Hawthorne among others. Enough said. This is one of the best hip hop albums of 2015. Get a digital copy here or pre-order the vinyl from Rapcats.

Arima Ederra – Questions Feat. Blu

I have to admit that I had never heard of Arima Ederra before this song so I don’t know much about her other than that she’s based in Las Vegas and that she has an EP on the way titled Earth to Arima. I’m feeling the laid-back vibe of this Bhonstro produced single which is perfect for a feature from Blu. Stay tuned for that EP hopefully coming soon.

Blu & Exile – Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them

Blu & Exile dropped the mixed and mastered version of their Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them album a few days back and after a few mediocre releases from Blu over the last few years it’s good to hear these two together again even if this was recorded a while back. While this isn’t quite on the same level as Below the Heavens, it’s still a quality release worth checking. Pick it up from iTunes now.

Sene – Backboards feat. Blu

Just a few days ago we heard the first single from Sene‘s upcoming album Brooklyknight and today we’ve got another sample with this track Backboards which features long time collaborator Blu. This one is also available for free download via Soundcloud. The album drops April 24.

Blu & Exile – Give Me My Flowers While I Can Smell Them

I’m sure this is going to make a lot of people happy just before Christmas. Blu and Exile have just released a full length LP that they recorded back in 2009. The vibe on this one is a bit more laid back and unpolished than Below the Heavens but there is definitely still some goodness on here and it’s good to hear more music from one of the best hip hop duos in recent years. Stream the whole LP below or get it from bandcamp.

Blu – My Sunshine feat. Nia Andrews (Video)

The buildup to Blu‘s NoYork! album continues with the release of this video for the single My Sunshine. The track features Nia Andrews and was produced by Shafiq Husayn. Still no word on the release date for the album.

Blu – Jesus (LP)

I know that Blu isn’t one to do things in a conventional way but I have to admit that this came as a bit of a surprise to me. While we wait for a release date for his highly anticipated album NoYork!, Blu has decided to release a mixtape titled Jesus. The 11 track unpolished and dusty sounding release features production from Alchemist, Madlib, Hezekiah, Knxwledge, 9th Wonder and Blu himself and is available on bandcamp.

Bilal – Robots (Remy LBO Remix feat. Blu)

A while back Plug Research made a call to producers to remix Bilal‘s Robots from Airtight’s Revenge. The response was so overwhelming that they decided to release a digital seven track EP of the remixes. I really like the sound of this Remy LBO remix featuring Blu which appears on the EP.

MED – This Is Your Life feat. Blu

While we await his new album, MED has decided to release the next installment of his Bang Ya Head series. This time it’s Bang Ya Head 3 – Special Edition which will drop on April 26 and will have features from Blu, Guilty Simpson, Waajeed, Georgia Anne Muldrow, J Rocc, Oddisee, The Alchemist, House Shoes, and more. Check out the Exile produced track This is Your Life featuring Blu below.
