Dilla Day Vol. 9

All over the world this week people are celebrating Dilla Day and of course we are no different. We usually post a Dilla track on or about the 7th of every month, but Dilla Day posts in February always hold a bit more weight, and this Dilla Day marks the 6th Anniversary of his passing.

Today’s track is not rare, but it’s just so damn good, and maybe often overlooked when people talk about some of his best production. Dilla could turn his hand at almost any style he wanted to but he was a master of the soulful love song, he often did remixes for R&B artists he liked and respected such as Macy Gray, The Brand New Heavies or Erykah Badu. This track Reminisce produced for Bilal on his 2001 debut 1st Born Second features Mos Def and Common with some nostalgic verses about the one that got away, and a nod to Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth.

So whether you haven’t heard it for a while, or maybe never heard it before, make sure you grab a donut, turn your system up to the red and take a moment to remember one of the greatest producers of all time.
